Senator Iya Abbas Advocates for Strategic Overhaul to Address Insurgency Challenges in the Northeast

Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing the Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has articulated profound concerns regarding the escalating security challenges in the Northeast region of Nigeria, specifically in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
In a motion presented to the Nigerian Senate, Senator Iya Abbas underscored the alarming resurgence of Boko Haram, particularly in the Hong Local Government Area of his constituency. He noted that the ramifications of Boko Haram’s activities are increasingly evident in several communities, contributing to significant loss of life.
While he commended the efforts of Nigeria’s security forces, Senator Iya Abbas, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science, and Technology, emphasised the necessity for a strategic overhaul to effectively combat the ongoing insurgency.
“Our security forces are exerting considerable effort, but I urge them to consider revising their tactical approaches and operational plans. This issue extends beyond the confines of Borno and Yobe; Adamawa is equally affected,” he remarked.
Senator Abbas called for the immediate redeployment of additional military personnel to the Northeast, advocating for these forces to be adequately equipped with advanced technology and resources necessary to address the rising incidence of insurgent attacks.
The sentiments expressed by Senator Abbas resonated with his colleagues in the Senate, which subsequently adopted his motion. The Senate has assigned the Committees on the Army and Air Force the responsibility of ensuring compliance and conducting thorough oversight in this matter.
