The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has initiated a comprehensive quality assurance campaign at the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Market, aiming to promote standardisation and consumer safety among traders and manufacturers.
The campaign, led by SON’s Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, represented by Mrs Talaru Ethan, who is the Director, Corporate Affairs, says it is part of the organisation’s broader efforts to enhance compliance with national standards and support economic growth.
During the event, SON officials conducted awareness sessions and engaged directly with market stakeholders to emphasise the importance of adhering to quality standards.

Dr. Okeke highlighted that standardisation is crucial for economic development, stating, “Standardisation is the bedrock of any nation’s economic development. Therefore, adherence to standards is imperative.”
Speaking during the event, the Board Chairman of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Market, Chief Niwesa Kushi, who is the Pipiyo Bata, expressed gratitude to SON for bringing the initiative to the grassroots level:
“We are honoured to welcome the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to our market. This campaign is a vital step in ensuring that our goods meet both national and international benchmarks. Our traders are hardworking men and women who are eager to learn and improve. With this partnership, we believe our market will gain greater trust from consumers and attract more business. I urge all stakeholders to embrace these standards as a way forward for a better and safer trading environment.”
SON’s campaign aligns with the development initiative of the Fintiri administration, ensuring that the market’s transformation includes a strong emphasis on quality and safety standards.

Local traders and business owners welcomed the initiative, recognising the benefits of standardisation in enhancing product quality and consumer trust. SON plans to continue its outreach programs across various markets and industries, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a culture of quality and compliance throughout Nigeria.
