The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep concern over the recent tribal clashes in Lamurde Local Government Area between the Rugange and Waduku communities, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property.
Rev. Dr. Joel Danjuma Manzo, the state CAN Chairman, issued a statement emphasising that this unfortunate situation should not have occurred, given the long history that binds the Rugange and Waduku communities together.
He noted that their enduring relationship, marked by intermarriages and mutual respect over many years, should not be jeopardised over a piece of land. Rev. Manzo urged that even in times of misunderstanding, families and communities should uphold Christian values that promote love, peace, and the importance of being good neighbours.
He called for open dialogue among the involved communities, urging community leaders, pastors, civil and traditional rulers, and elders to convene and work towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution of their differences.
“I stress the importance of prioritising love, empathy, and understanding to facilitate reconciliation rather than resorting to violence,” he stated.
Rev. Manzo encouraged both communities to protect and sustain their long-standing relationship and to strive for a future where they can coexist in peace and harmony.
“It is my sincere prayer that the all-knowing God grants you the wisdom, patience, and love needed to navigate this challenge,” said the State CAN Chairman.
He expressed optimism that together, the communities can overcome their difficulties, emerging stronger, more united, and with a deeper love for one another to safeguard their territory from external threats.
