The Catholic Diocese of Yola and the community of Sugu in Adamawa State gathered on 16 June 2026 to honour the life of Rtd. Catechist Aidan B. Wurumtemmen, a respected religious leader whose decades of service shaped the spiritual life of the region. The funeral ceremony drew a wide cross‑section of society, including clergy, traditional authorities, civic leaders, and residents.
A solemn Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church (the first Catholic Parish in North East Nigeria established by the Augustinians of the Irish Province in 1940) was led by his son, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Athanasius Barkindo, adding a deeply personal element to the proceedings. In his homily, Rev. Fr. Maurice Kwairanga praised the late catechist’s lifelong dedication to the Church, describing him as a man of integrity, humility, and unwavering faith.

Tributes from institutions and leaders—including the Gangwari of Ganye and Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah —reflected the high esteem in which Wurumtemmen was held. His contributions to community development and religious life were repeatedly emphasized.
He was later laid to rest in Sugu, surrounded by prayers and hymns, following the Catholic Funeral Mass. His legacy endures through his family and the many individuals whose lives he touched.
