Fresh controversy has engulfed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State following allegations that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is behind moves to replace the party’s governorship candidate, Ambassador Engineer Omar Suleiman Omarana.
The allegations, which have continued to circulate within political circles, triggered protests by party supporters in Yola and other parts of the state. The demonstrators accused Atiku of attempting to influence the party’s governorship ticket despite Omarana having emerged as the party’s candidate through the primary election.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the protesters insisted that Omarana remains the legitimate flag bearer of the ADC in Adamawa State. They called on the party’s national leadership to resist what they described as external interference and uphold the outcome of the party’s primary.
The protesters warned that any attempt to substitute the candidate could destabilize the party ahead of the governorship election, urging stakeholders to respect internal democratic processes.
At the time of filing this report, Atiku Abubakar has not publicly responded to the allegations, and there has been no official confirmation from the ADC national leadership regarding any plan to replace the party’s governorship candidate.
