Unity and Stewardship Take Center Stage as Bishop Mamza Addresses Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council

The Catholic Diocese of Yola held its Annual Diocesan Pastoral Council at the Bishop Sheehan Pastoral Centre, where Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza delivered a comprehensive stewardship report and urged the faithful to deepen unity within the church.

In his address, Bishop Mamza reminded the Laity that diversity within the church is a strength rather than a barrier. “Our differences are not obstacles but gifts meant to enrich our ministry and strengthen the church’s faith,” he said, emphasizing that each person’s uniqueness contributes to the wider mission of the Diocese.

Stewardship and Ongoing Projects
Reviewing developments over the past year, Bishop Mamza noted significant progress at the Bishop Sheehan Pastoral Centre, though he acknowledged that funding challenges persist. Despite difficulties in accessing grants, he reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to completing the centre in preparation for hosting the Bishop’s Conference in 2027.

He also announced plans for a table water factory within the pastoral centre grounds—an initiative aimed at boosting the Diocese’s financial sustainability. Bishop Mamza appealed to the Laity for patience and continued support as the Diocese works toward its long‑term vision.

Leadership and Collaboration
A keynote presentation by Rev. Fr. Pasim Tembe focused on Integrating Diverse Personalities and Spiritual Gifts for Effective Church Leadership. He encouraged the Laity to embrace teamwork, noting that every role in the church is irreplaceable: “A hundred priests cannot replace a Bishop; a hundred Laity cannot replace a priest.”

The council, the highest consultative body of the Diocese, brought together Deans of Deaneries, leaders of religious organizations, parish chairpersons and secretaries, and representatives of CWO, CMO, and CYON.

Council Activities
The gathering featured workshops, parish reports, financial updates, and other administrative sessions aimed at strengthening diocesan structures and pastoral effectiveness.

Closing Mass
The council concluded with a solemn Holy Mass on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, marking the end of a weekend dedicated to reflection, planning, and renewed commitment to diocesan growth.
