Chief Maurice Vunobolki has received his Certificate of Return as the governorship flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State, with the process reportedly backed by recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The development is being viewed by supporters as a major milestone in the party’s preparations for future elections, as INEC recognition is widely regarded as a critical factor in validating candidates and party processes.
Party faithful who attended the presentation described Vunobolki’s emergence as a reflection of the outcome of a process conducted in line with established procedures.
They expressed confidence that the recognition would strengthen his mandate and provide greater clarity on the party’s leadership direction in the state.
Observers note that electoral recognition carries significant weight in Nigeria’s political system, as candidates and party executives recognized by INEC are generally considered the legitimate representatives of their respective political organizations.
Meanwhile, Caleb is said to be holding a Certificate of Return issued by a separate PDP faction whose leadership and activities have not received official recognition from INEC. This has fueled ongoing debate among party members over the legitimacy of competing claims within the party.
Political analysts argue that while internal party disagreements are common, recognition by the electoral commission often serves as the determining factor in establishing which faction has legal standing in matters relating to party leadership and candidature.
With INEC’s recognition accompanying his Certificate of Return, Vunobolki’s supporters insist that his position as the PDP governorship flag bearer in Adamawa State has been significantly reinforced, giving him a stronger platform as political activities continue to unfold in the state.
