The Senator representing Adamawa central senatorial district, Aminu Iya Abbas, has donated N10 million, bags of Rice, Maize, Mats, Blankets and sundry relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Yola South Local Government Area.
The senator, who personally went round to inspect the affected flood areas, made the donations on Wednesday and commiserated with the victims as well as prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the incidents.
While addressing the flood victims in some areas he visited, Senator Abbas assured them of his commitment towards providing them with the necessary support to aid their suffering.
He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, the North East Development Commission NEDC, the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), and the Red Cross, among other relevant agencies, for their support to the victims.
Senator Abbas noted that the level of devastation caused by the flood was enormous in virtually all the areas affected, noting that he will raise the issue once again on the floor of the Senate to explore the possibility of collaborative efforts of governments at all levels to provide the necessary input to safeguard the lives and properties of the people.
Receiving the items at Aliyu Mustafa College, Yola, the Permanent Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Celine Laori, appreciated the senator for coming to the aid of the victims and promised judicious use of the items donated.
Some of the victims, while speaking during the visit, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, describing Senator Iya Abbas as a representative who put the interests of his people above his own personal interests.
