Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has directed all political appointees serving in his administration who have publicly declared allegiance to, or defected to, other political parties to immediately resign their appointments.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.
Governor Fintiri said the decision became necessary to safeguard loyalty, discipline, and the integrity of public service within the state government.
According to the governor, political appointees are expected to support and advance the policies, programmes, and political direction of the administration under which they serve.
He warned that continued service by officials who have aligned themselves with other political parties could undermine government operations and pose risks to policy implementation.
The governor further directed all affected appointees to submit their resignation letters to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within 48 hours of the announcement.
He also instructed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to compile and verify a comprehensive list of all affected political appointees for compliance monitoring.
Governor Fintiri warned that any appointee who fails to comply with the directive within the stipulated period would face immediate termination of appointment, forfeiture of salaries, entitlements and other benefits, as well as additional administrative sanctions.
He stressed that public office is a trust that must be exercised in line with the vision, agenda and mandate of the administration, adding that government cannot tolerate divided loyalty in the discharge of public responsibilities.
The directive comes amid recent political realignments and defections by some political office holders in the state ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
