FESTIVE SEASON Catholic Diocese of Yola Hosts 2026 Metropolitan Christmas Carol of Four Lessons

The Catholic Diocese of Yola has held its 2026 Metropolitan Christmas Carol of Four Lessons at Saint Theresa’s Cathedral, Yola, Adamawa State. The event attracted large numbers of parishioners and faithful drawn from parishes across the Diocese, marking a solemn and joyful celebration of the Christmas season.

In his welcome address, the Very Reverend Father Boniface Bonyo, Vicar General of the Diocese, urged parishioners to approach the carol with deep reflection and reverence, emphasising the spiritual significance of the birth of Jesus Christ.

He described the Christmas season as a period that gives life and hope to Christians, reminding the faithful that the gathering was to acknowledge and celebrate the blessings humanity received through the birth of Christ.

Delivering the Christmas message, Reverend Father Emmanuel Dugeri, Esq., highlighted the true meaning of the Christmas season and cautioned Christians against celebrating it in a worldly manner.

He encouraged the faithful to embrace the season with purity of heart and sincere thanksgiving to God for His immeasurable gift to humanity.

Father Dugeri also reflected on the prevailing socio-economic and security challenges facing Nigeria, calling on Christians to remain steadfast in faith, while continually praying for peace, unity, and prosperity in the nation.

In his remarks, the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Reverend Dr Stephen Dami Mamza, encouraged Christians not to lose hope despite the numerous challenges confronting the country.

He noted that the celebration of the Christmas Carol symbolises the coming of light into the world through the birth of Jesus Christ, a light that brings hope, peace, and salvation to humanity.

Speaking on national security, Bishop Mamza expressed concern about the country’s future, stating that the security situation requires strong political will and decisive action to be effectively addressed.

However, he expressed confidence in the appointment of General Christopher Musa as the Minister of Defence of the Federation, describing him as a seasoned officer whose track record, particularly during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, speaks volumes in the fight against terrorism and insecurity across the country.

The high point of the event was the lighting of the Christmas tree, accompanied by melodious carol renditions and presentations by various church groups, including the Deaf Catholic Community.

The colourful performances added to the festive atmosphere, bringing the celebration to a memorable and inspiring close.
