CYON Pre-National Youth Day: Bishop Mamza Encourages Youth to Avoid Job Selectivity

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has advised Nigerian youth to pursue self-employment and not to be selective when it comes to job opportunities or wait solely for white-collar jobs.
Bishop Mamza provided this advice during the opening mass of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) Pre-National Youth Day 2025, which was held at Saint Theresa’s Cathedral. The theme for this year’s Pre-National Youth Day is “You Also Are My Witness Because You Have Been with Me,” inspired by John 15:27.
The Bishop emphasised the importance of staying relevant and actively supporting the church and its activities. He cautioned the youth against being manipulated into causing chaos within society.
Bishop Mamza encouraged young people to explore self-employment opportunities, highlighting the potential for entrepreneurship and innovation. He discouraged them from being picky in their job searches and urged them to consider all available opportunities.
Furthermore, the Bishop appealed to the youth to resist evil and forms of violence, particularly those instigated by politicians who exploit idle youth as political thugs.
He reiterated the significance of youth supporting the church and its activities, promoting unity and purposeful living within the church community.
Also speaking at the event, the provincial chaplain, Reverend Father Naron Hoomsuk, welcomed the youth from various dioceses within the province to Yola. He expressed appreciation for their resilience, support, and commitment to proclaiming and preaching the Gospel through their various activities in the church.
