The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the PDP.
Vunobolki described the death of the elder statesman as a painful loss to Adamawa State and Nigeria, saying his passing has left a significant void in the political and social life of the state.
The governorship candidate said Tukur was more than a politician, describing him as a respected statesman whose long years of public service touched many lives and whose contributions to the development of the former Gongola State and the country would not be forgotten.
He extended his condolences to the Tukur family, the people of Adamawa State and members of the PDP, urging them to take comfort in the enduring legacy of the late former governor.
“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a father, a leader and a statesman whose life was deeply connected to the history and development of our state and our country. His passing is a painful loss, and his wisdom, experience and counsel will be greatly missed,” Vunobolki said.
He noted that Tukur’s political journey, which included his service as Governor of the old Gongola State and later as National Chairman of the PDP, reflected a lifetime dedicated to public service and democratic politics.
Meanwhile, Chief Maurice has suspended all campaign activities for three days in honour of the late former governor and party chairman.
The suspension takes effect from Sunday, September 13, 2026, as the party joins the family and people of Adamawa State in mourning the respected elder statesman.
