In a proactive effort to enhance food security and address climate-related challenges, the Adamawa State Government, through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS), hosted a productive workshop in Yola.
This workshop brought together over 120 participants from across the livestock value chain, focusing on the transformative potential of modern technology and climate-smart practices in animal production systems.
Farmers, researchers, development partners, and government officials united with a shared objective: to innovate and strengthen livestock farming in the face of climate change. Key discussions were informed by recent survey findings that highlighted productivity trends and the need for increased adoption of innovative practices among livestock producers.

Suleiman Mohammed, the Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Ministry of Livestock and Aquaculture, emphasized the urgent need to embrace modern techniques in light of shifting global climate conditions. He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s leadership for fostering a supportive environment for the L-PRESS project, stating, “We appreciate the strong political will of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for championing the L-PRESS initiative.”

Alfa Secondee, the State Coordinator of L-PRESS, articulated the pressing threats that climate change poses to livestock farmers’ livelihoods, urging immediate action to safeguard the state’s food security. He noted the vital importance of familiarizing farmers with modern technologies to enhance livestock productivity and encouraged participants to leverage the investment from taxpayers to gain valuable knowledge for their growth.
Facilitators, including Dr Ibrahim Bayaso and Amurtiya Michael, highlighted the significance of aligning local livestock practices with environmental realities. They advocated for strategic investments in early-warning systems, pasture management, and sustainable feeding techniques.

Participants, such as Glandu Joseph Sajo, a divisional livestock officer, found the workshop to be a valuable opportunity for practical solutions and collaborative engagement in overcoming persistent production challenges.
Breakout sessions provided a platform for participants to voice local challenges, share insights, and co-create tailored solutions for their communities. As climate patterns continue to evolve in northeastern Nigeria, initiatives like L-PRESS hold great promise for securing the resilience and sustainability of livestock-dependent families.
