Bishop Mamza: Federal Government Not Ready to End Insecurity.

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, has said the Federal Government is yet to demonstrate the political will needed to end the lingering insecurity across Nigeria.

Bishop Mamza made the assertion while speaking with journalists shortly after presiding over the closing Mass of the 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council held in Yola, Adamawa State.

He expressed concern over the continued killings, kidnappings, banditry and attacks on communities, noting that the persistent insecurity has left many Nigerians living in fear and uncertainty.

According to the Bishop, despite repeated assurances by government authorities, the security situation in many parts of the country has shown little improvement, raising questions about the commitment of those responsible for protecting lives and property.

“The government must go beyond promises and take decisive action to address the security challenges confronting the nation. The safety of citizens should remain the foremost responsibility of any administration,” he said.

Bishop Mamza urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve the welfare of security personnel and ensure greater collaboration among security agencies to effectively tackle criminal elements.

He also called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace while supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring security and national unity.

The cleric spoke at the conclusion of the annual Diocesan Pastoral Council, where priests, religious and lay representatives from across the diocese reviewed the activities of the local Church and deliberated on issues affecting both the Church and the nation.
