Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing the Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has strongly denied circulating reports suggesting he plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly-worded statement issued by his Yola Media Office, the lawmaker dismissed the rumors as “baseless, fake, malicious, and highly misleading,” attributing the reports to political detractors intimidated by his rising profile.
The controversy stems from recent online publications alleging that Senator Abbas was plotting a move to the ADC to secure a senatorial ticket. The reports claimed the move was triggered by the fallout of the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Adamawa State.
However, the Senator’s media team shot down the claims, labeling the anonymous sources cited in the reports as a “tissue of lies” designed to create confusion within the state’s political landscape.
The media office clarified that Senator Abbas has no intention of leaving his current political platform, describing him as a “committed, loyal, and foundational pillar” of his party.
”We wish to state categorically, clearly, and unequivocally that this story is entirely baseless,” the statement read. “It is nothing but the desperate product of political hallucination by detractors who are deeply intimidated by the Senator’s rising political profile, immense popularity, and unshakeable grassroots support across Adamawa State.”
According to his office, the lawmaker remains fully focused on legislative duties and delivering democracy dividends to his constituents, rather than engaging in premature 2027 political maneuvering. The statement emphasized that Abbas’s driving ideology remains “Adamawa’s development first,” with priorities set on:

The statement urged party stakeholders, loyal supporters, and the general public to completely disregard the defection reports, declaring them “dead on on arrival.”
