MISSION TAKE HEART ACTIVITIES: IDPs Conclude Summer with Singing and Dancing Competitions.

The Salama Housing Estate in Yola was a vibrant venue filled with joy, music, and spiritual reflection as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from thirteen camps across Adamawa State gathered to conclude their summer activities organised by Mission Take Heart.

This event featured dynamic singing and dancing competitions, eliciting enthusiastic participation from both women and youth.

It not only provided an opportunity for participants to express their talents but also facilitated relief and social bonding among IDPs who have experienced prolonged displacement.

The program was funded by Mission Take Heart in collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Yola, through the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC).

The coordination of the initiative was undertaken by Very Reverend Father Maurice Kwairanga representing Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza of the Catholic Diocese of Yola, a prominent advocate for the welfare and dignity of displaced individuals in the region.

In his keynote address, Very Rev. Fr Kwairanga delivered an inspiring message of hope and encouragement, urging displaced families to maintain resilience and steadfastness in their faith.

He emphasised that beyond the immediate challenges associated with displacement lies a greater spiritual journey that necessitates commitment, unity, and perseverance.

“We are gathered here today not solely to celebrate through song and dance, but to remind ourselves that our strength is derived from God. Even in challenging times, we must remain focused on our spiritual purpose. Be resolute, be prayerful, and sustain hope, for your future shall be greater than your present circumstances,” he stated.

The summer activities, ongoing throughout the season within the IDP camps, were designed to provide psychosocial support, foster unity, and promote constructive engagement among displaced individuals, particularly women and youth who often face the greatest challenges amidst conflict and instability.

Participants showcased traditional dances, cultural songs, and spiritually uplifting performances during the competitions, receiving enthusiastic cheers and applause from fellow IDPs and attendees.

Several participants, representing the IDPs, expressed their gratitude to Mission Take Heart and the Catholic Diocese of Yola for their continued support through humanitarian relief and programs that uplift their spirits and enhance their resilience.

As the summer program concluded with the distribution of gifts to outstanding groups, Fr. Kwairanga reaffirmed the commitment of the Church and its partners to support the IDPs until sustainable solutions to their displacement are achieved, pledging ongoing assistance through empowerment, education, and spiritual guidance.
