The Catholic Diocese of Yola has achieved a significant milestone with the official commissioning of 30 newly trained catechists, who will serve in various parishes.
The commissioning ceremony was conducted at the Muchalla Catechetical Training Centre located in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, under the leadership of the Most Reverend Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza.
This event signifies a renewed commitment to faith formation and evangelization within the Diocese.

In his homily, Bishop Mamza underscored the critical roles of Catechists in the life of the Church, urging the community to extend support to them as they undertake their teaching and service responsibilities.
He also encouraged the newly commissioned catechists to embody the values they teach, stating, “You must be rooted in prayer, guided by love, and strengthened by humility. The people you teach must see Christ in you.”
Bishop Mamza further articulated, “These catechists are not only educators of the faith but also witnesses to the Gospel. Their mission is essential in deepening the understanding of Christian doctrine and nurturing the spiritual vitality of our communities.”

The newly commissioned catechists have undergone extensive training in theology, scripture, liturgy, and pastoral care. Their investiture marks the commencement of a pastoral journey, wherein they will act as pivotal agents of evangelization in both rural and urban parishes.
Catechist Anthony Ambrose expressed appreciation for the Church’s investment in enhancing their spiritual and personal development through the training of their spouses and children. He felt honoured and humbled to be part of this mission.
” With divine assistance, I will convey the message of Christ to those in greatest need, he noted”
To facilitate their endeavours, the newly commissioned catechists were provided with new motorcycles. In addition, their spouses were equipped with sewing machines to promote self-reliance and contribute to the economic stability of their families.

As the Diocese continues to expand, this commissioning represents a significant advancement in strengthening faith education and pastoral outreach, particularly in communities where priests may not be consistently present.
With renewed enthusiasm and a clear sense of purpose, the newly commissioned catechists are now prepared to disseminate the Gospel message throughout the faithful communities of the Yola Diocese.
