ICAN Yola District Inaugurates Adesola Abidoye Michael as 10th Chairman.

 

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, Yola and District Society has elected and inaugurated new executives, with Mr. Adesola Abidoye Michael, FCA, emerging as the 10th Chairman of the District.

The investiture ceremony was held on Sunday at Muna Hotel, Yola.

Representing the National President of ICAN, Mrs. Queensley Sofuratu, Mr. Japhet Wakila charged the new executives to align their activities with the national institute’s calendar.

He emphasized that “We Are ICAN” is more than a slogan, describing it as a call to raise professional standards, defend accountability, embrace technology, build partnerships, and promote sustainability.

Mrs. Sofuratu urged the new leadership to be fair and just to all members, stressing that leadership is a shared responsibility.

She also appreciated the immediate past executives for strengthening and uniting the society.

In his valedictory address, the outgoing Chairman, Isa Mustapha, said his tenure recorded major milestones,these include outreach to five secondary schools with learning materials, securing a landed property for the Institute, providing a befitting examination hall for students at Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, and training for some government agencies.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Mr. Adesola Abidoye Michael, FCA, said “leadership is a relay, not a race and pledged to run a transparent and accountable administration focused on unity and purpose.

He promised to re-engage dormant members and continue from where the previous leadership stopped.

The event featured a presentation on “An Overview of Nigeria’s New Tax Laws” by Professor El-Maude Jibreel Gambo, Head of Department of Accounting, MAU Yola.

Other officers sworn-in for a one-year tenure include Dr. Wabla Onoja as Vice Chairman and Ruth Ene Okidu as Treasurer, alongside other executive members.
