As Nigeria marks another milestone in its democratic journey, the Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, has extended his warmest felicitations to the good people of Adamawa Central, Adamawa State, and the nation at large.
In a Democracy Day message issued through his Media Office in Yola, Senator Abbas, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, emphasized that June 12 stands as a profound symbol of the collective will of Nigerians to embrace democratic governance, justice, and the rule of law.
Reflecting on the nation’s journey, the lawmaker noted that the true essence of democracy lies in the strength of its diversity, urging citizens to leverage this strength to foster development rather than division.
With the political landscape gradually shifting focus toward the 2027 general elections, Senator Abbas strongly appealed to politicians, community leaders, and citizens to avoid divisive rhetoric. He cautioned against the temptation of using ethnic or religious sentiments to score cheap political points.
”Our diversity is our greatest asset, not a tool for division. As we gradually approach another electoral cycle, we must guide our utterances and actions with utmost responsibility. Politics will come and go, but our bonds as brothers and sisters in Adamawa State and Nigeria must remain unbroken.”

To ensure a prosperous future and a seamless political transition, the Senator highlighted three vital pillars:He challenged the diverse ethnic nationalities and religious groups across the seven local governments of Adamawa Central (Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Fufore, Song, Gombi, and Hong) to champion peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
He urged the youth and political actors to resist being used as instruments of thuggery or instability, encouraging them instead to engage in constructive dialogue that advances the socio-economic welfare of the state.
He reiterated his commitment to delivering qualitative legislative representation at the National Assembly that directly addresses the security, economic, and developmental aspirations of his constituency.
Senator Abbas, reassured his constituents that his office remains fully committed to fostering programs that bridge divides and promote inclusivity.
”Let us use this Democracy Day to renew our covenant with peace. Let us understand that without peace, there can be no sustainable development, and without unity, our democratic gains cannot be preserved. Let us work together to make Adamawa Central a model of harmony as we march toward the future,” the Senator stated.
He prayed for continuous peace in Adamawa State and wished all Nigerians a meaningful and peaceful Democracy Day celebration.
