*YEDC will have the full backing of the law- Adamawa CJ*

The Chief Judge of Adamwa State has assured YEDC of the full backing of the law provided all the Company’s engagements are lawful.

This was expressed when the Management Team of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), led by the MD/CEO, Engr. Abdulrahman Isa, Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to her office at the at the Adamawa State High Court Complex.

During the visit, Engr. Isa highlighted the challenges faced by YEDC in its operations, particularly in distributing electricity across four states under its jurisdiction.

He explained that YEDC receives 3.5% of the total power generated nationally, which must be distributed equitably across the states, while also converting the service into monetary value.

“The poverty line is high, and with insecurity and economic hardship people are focused on basic survival first. However, we must deliver electricity services because failure to do so would collapse the value chain and strain economic activities in the region.” Engr. Isa stated.

He further discussed the transition from government-subsidized tariffs to the current service-reflective tariff structure.

“The shift came at a difficult time when resources are scarce, leading to widespread energy theft, vandalization of infrastructure for economic gain, and even assaults on our personnel. Despite these challenges, we are grateful that when we appear before the courts, we receive justice.
We appreciate Your Lordship’s role in ensuring fairness.” Isa added.

In her response, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman reassured YEDC of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the law.

“We follow the law. You will have our full cooperation as long as you work within the ambit of the law. Do the right thing and follow the rule of law.

Most of your cases that we see show that you are always on the right side of the law.” She affirmed.

YEDC’s franchise areas include Adamawa, Borno, Taraba and Yobe States.
