President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine is advancing further into Russian territory.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian troops have made progress in multiple directions in the Kursk region since the beginning of Wednesday.
This operation marks the second week of Ukraine’s incursion into Russian territory, representing the most significant and deepest advancement into the country since Moscow’s full-scale invasion began.
Additionally, a state of emergency has been declared in another Russian region, Belgorod, where homes have been damaged in drone attacks and shelling.
The governor of Belgorod states that Russia has accused Ukraine of “committing crimes” and has asserted that any possibility of peace talks is now on a “long pause”.
The Russia-Ukraine war, which commenced in February 2022, is an ongoing conflict that originated with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This escalation followed years of tension, including Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its support for separatist movements in eastern Ukraine.
The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life, displacement of people, and widespread damage to infrastructure.
