The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ganye Local Government Area has been plunged into controversy as executive members accuse the Acting Chairman of undermining party unity and due process ahead of an unscheduled state constituency election.
In a letter addressed to the State Chairman of the APC Adamawa Chapter, signed by 13 concerned executive members, allegations were made against the Acting Chairman for secretly endorsing a particular candidate during a closed-door meeting with select party officials.
The meeting, held outside the party secretariat, has been described as a violation of the APC’s internal democracy and its constitution.
The executives expressed concern over the Acting Chairman’s actions, stating that it threatened the work of the Reconciliation Committee, which was established to foster unity within the party.
They warned that this endorsement could sow division, weaken party cohesion, and erode confidence in the Local Government Executive Committee.
Citing Article 20.3 of the APC Constitution (2022), the petitioners emphasized that nominations for public offices must be conducted through direct or indirect primaries under the supervision of the National Working Committee. They argued that the Acting Chairman and the local executive committee lack the authority to endorse any candidate.
“The Acting Chairman’s actions have not only disregarded party procedures but also risk alienating members and undermining our chances in the upcoming election,” the letter stated.
The petitioners called for urgent intervention from the state leadership to address the issue, urging the State Chairman to restore order and prevent further disunity within the party.
As political parties strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections and the state constituency by-election, the party’s ability to address these grievances and present a united front will be crucial in maintaining its influence and electoral prospects in Adamawa State.
