The Adamawa State Government is taking proactive steps to ensure that every child has access to education by pursuing legal action against parents who deny their children this fundamental right.

Dr. Umar Garba Pella, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, announced this initiative after a productive closed-door meeting with key stakeholders in the education sector, convened by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.

This high-level engagement aimed to foster collaboration among stakeholders and to reassess strategies to improve the education sector, aligning it with the significant investments made by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is committed to achieving positive results.

During the meeting, Dr. Pella emphasized the importance of addressing the challenge of out-of-school children. He shared that the government will hold accountable those parents who obstruct their children’s educational opportunities. To support this initiative, a monitoring and evaluation committee has been established to oversee the effectiveness of educational programs in schools.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Pella expressed the need for a renewed focus on the education sector’s performance, recognizing the substantial investment that has been made. He described the gathering as an important call to action for enhanced coordination and performance within the sector.

Dr. Pella affirmed Governor Fintiri’s dedication to results and his commitment to ensuring that underperformance will not be tolerated. He highlighted the need for collaboration to facilitate significant improvements in education and to create a comprehensive turnaround in the sector.

The meeting brought together a diverse group of participants, including the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, the Permanent Secretary, directors, executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, members of the Post-Primary Schools Management Board, education secretaries from all 21 local governments, and principals from various schools, among other influential figures in education.

The overarching goal of this collaborative effort is to develop innovative strategies that will uplift the standards and quality of education in Adamawa, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive.
