Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of vulnerable groups in society, focusing on improving livelihoods.
This commitment was highlighted during the launch of an empowerment program for agricultural cooperative societies by the Adamawa state government, organized through the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development.
In a message conveyed by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, Governor Fintiri announced the distribution of agricultural inputs to over 1,000 farmers through 84 registered cooperative societies. This initiative is designed to complement government efforts in promoting inclusive development and shared prosperity among citizens.
The governor emphasized the importance of agricultural production and value chain development as key priorities for his administration. He believes that cooperative societies play an essential role in ensuring food security for households and commercial markets alike.
By fostering economic development, these cooperative societies also contribute significantly to job creation, poverty reduction, and social cohesion. The governor is committed to investing in the physical, social, and economic security of the state’s residents. He congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to utilize the provided inputs wisely to enhance their farming activities, improve their livelihoods, and elevate their standard of living.
Hammanjumba Gatugel, the Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, shared insights on the ministry’s establishment in 2019. The ministry aims to create initiatives and strategies that promote entrepreneurship and support business and industry growth.
He highlighted that there are over 2,000 registered cooperative societies across the 21 local government areas, actively engaged in various trades such as farming, trading, tailoring, fashion design, welding, fabrication, barbing, hairdressing, and food processing.
The commissioner outlined various activities implemented by the ministry, supported by Governor Fintiri, which are focused on fostering entrepreneurship, creating wealth, and serving as catalysts for social capital development, job creation, poverty alleviation, and economic progress.
Gatugel expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for empowering citizens to achieve self-sufficiency and economic stability.
The event concluded with goodwill messages from Dr Michael Zirra, the Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, and other stakeholders, all of whom praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his people-centred policies and initiatives aimed at building a prosperous and productive Adamawa.
