The Adamawa State government has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing funding and strengthening the educational system.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri made this announcement during the 15th combined convocation and 50th anniversary celebration of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, where 15,139 students graduated.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Deputy Professor Kaletapwa Farauta assured attendees that the administration remains focused on revitalizing the education sector.
This includes policies aimed at expanding access and improving the quality of education for the people. The government has enhanced investment in schools, strengthened scholarship programs, and provided teacher training, ensuring that citizens receive the education and skills necessary to thrive.
The governor also highlighted the development of student-friendly programs in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to equip graduates with essential skills for success in a technology-driven economy.
He expressed his unwavering commitment to the success of all federal tertiary institutions in Adamawa, recognizing the strategic importance of FCE Yola in supplying the necessary manpower for schools across the state.
The Minister of Education, represented by Dr. Yusuf Saeed, Director of Reforms, Coordination, and Service Improvement at the Federal Ministry of Education, congratulated the graduates.
He noted that their achievement of the Nigeria Certificate in Education is evidence of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and patience, despite the challenges faced.
Addressing the funding challenges faced by tertiary institutions in Nigeria, he emphasized that the federal government remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the condition of tertiary education. He encouraged the graduates to apply the skills they have learned and pursue their destinies with vigour and determination.
The Provost of FCE Yola, Dr. Mohammed Usman Degereji, reiterated that the college is dedicated to teacher production, as demonstrated by the graduation of 15,139 students.
He highlighted several successes, including improvements in infrastructure, state-of-the-art learning facilities, and enhanced staff capacity building, while expressing gratitude for the support received from the Adamawa State government, federal government, TETFund, and other intervention agencies.
Lawrence Babatunde Aremu, Director of Special Duties at the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCC), assured the commission’s commitment to ensuring that colleges of education produce highly qualified teachers equipped with the skills and knowledge to advance Nigeria’s education system.
He praised FCE Yola for its dedication to academic excellence and innovative practices, evident in the quality of its graduates and research output.
The commission noted that the accomplishments of the graduates reflect resilience and perseverance, urging them to embrace lifelong learning, stay updated on best practices, and contribute to shaping the future of education.
The event concluded with the decoration of the Deputy as the Grand Patron of the college alumni and the presentation of awards to outstanding and best-performing students.
