The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned in strong terms what it described as a daylight political robbery by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo State Governorship election.
Briefing newsmen in Yola, Barrister Tahir Shehu, who is the Adamawa State PDP Chairman decry how the Edo state Governorship Election which took place on the 21st September, 2024 was allegedly manipulated by APC, emphasizing it was executed out of desperation imploring all lethal means, including violent manipulation to
subvert the wishes of the generality of the Edo People.
Tahir stated unequivocally that they stand by the results presented by the Chairman of the Edo PDP National Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamawa State Governor, clearly showed that the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, garnered the highest votes, making him the winner of the election.
According to the PDP, the alleged act will further deepen voter apathy, thereby making nonsense of the nation’s democratic process, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some Security personnel of connivance, describing it as shameful.
The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party also aligns with the position of the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum and the PDP Governors’ Forum chaired by His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON. Executive Governor Bauchi stated that the Edo Governorship election was highly compromised.
“We wish to state that we are solidly behind our National Party taking any legal proactive measure to ensure that the stolen mandate in Edo State is retrieved”
Speaking on the internal crisis rocking PDP, the Adamawa State Chapter supports Sen. Umar Iliya Damagun to serve out the tenure of the erstwhile Chairman in line with the Supreme Court Judgment.
“The Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party is clear on the position of existing vacancy. Section 47 (6) states thus:- ”
“Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the Party, the Executive Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from the area or zone where the officer originated from to serve out the tenure of the officer.”
” The Former National Chairman is from the Northern Zone. Therefore, Sen. Umar Iliya Damagun, the Deputy National Chairman (Northern Zone), is most qualified to serve out the tenure of the former National Chairman. We, therefore, support the Position of our Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and other Governors reiterated that Sen. Umar Iliya Damagun should serve out the tenure of the erstwhile Chairman, which is in line with the Supreme Court Judgment. “
