The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, has called on the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Sports to formally confirm Coach Justine Madugu as the substantive head coach of Nigeria’s female national football team, the Super Falcons.
Bishop Mamza made the appeal during a thanksgiving Mass held in honour of Coach Madugu at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Numan, in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, following the Super Falcons’ recent triumph under his leadership.
The event drew a large crowd, including Reverend Fathers, Reverend Sisters, church societies, friends, family members, and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate what they described as a divine reward for dedication, discipline, and faith.
In his homily, Bishop Mamza praised Coach Madugu for his humility, professionalism, and devotion to duty, noting that his recent achievement brought honour not only to the Catholic Church but also to the entire people of Adamawa State, Nigeria, and Africa at large.
“Coach Justine Madugu’s success is a testimony of God’s grace and hard work. He has made us proud as a son of the church and as an ambassador of Adamawa. I therefore call on the Federal Government and the Ministry of Sports to confirm him as the head coach of the Super Falcons so that he can continue to lead the team to greater victories,” Bishop Mamza stated.
The Bishop also emphasized the need for government and sports authorities to recognize and support individuals who demonstrate integrity, commitment, and excellence in national service, saying such encouragement inspires young Nigerians to strive for greatness.
In his response, Coach Justine Madugu expressed profound gratitude to God for the success recorded by the Super Falcons and thanked the congregation for organizing the thanksgiving Mass in his honour.
“I return all glory to God for this success. It is not by my strength but by His grace. I thank the Federal Government and the Nigerian Football Federation for giving me the opportunity to serve my country,” he said.
Coach Madugu assured that he would continue to work hard to make the nation proud, promising not to disappoint the trust reposed in him.
“With the continued support of Nigerians and the grace of God, I am hopeful that we will reclaim the African Women’s Championship trophy and qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” he added.
The thanksgiving ceremony ended with prayers for Coach Madugu, the Super Falcons, and for peace and progress in Nigeria
