Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, the Bishop of Yola Catholic Diocese, has lauded former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi for his generous donation of ten sets of computers and printers to St. Augustine College in Mayo Belwa.

The Bishop expressed his belief that this contribution will significantly enhance the learning experience for students, emphasizing the critical importance of information technology in modern education.

Peter Obi was in Adamawa State to celebrate the 20th anniversary and founding day of the American University in Yola, where he served as the keynote speaker.

In his remarks, Bishop Mamza acknowledged Peter Obi’s notable contributions to education in the northern region, stating, “Peter Obi is here today as part of his nationwide tour to support various institutions, including the numerous Almajiri schools in the North West and North East.”

He added, “St. Augustine College is one of our diocesan secondary schools. By donating these ten sets of computers and printers, Peter Obi is helping to facilitate our students’ learning process. We are immensely thankful for this thoughtful gesture and excited about the positive changes it will bring to our children.”

During the event, Peter Obi stressed the importance of investing in children’s education, stating that such investments are never wasted. He highlighted education as the key to securing a brighter future for the younger generation and committed to continuing his efforts to strengthen educational opportunities. “All developed nations have prioritized education and invested significantly in this vital sector, recognizing its power to transform communities,” he noted.

Obi also addressed Nigeria’s ongoing challenges, framing them as a crisis of leadership. He urged citizens to be discerning in their electoral choices, asserting that leadership requires capacity, empathy, and wisdom to guide the nation effectively.

“My visit to Adamawa State involved addressing several pressing issues. As a guest speaker at AUN, I spoke about the significance of effective leadership. I also visited an Almajiri school where I witnessed the impactful work being done, as well as St. Augustine Secondary School, where I had the privilege of supporting the students with laptops,” he shared.

Fr. Moses Ma’aji, Principal of St. Augustine College, expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting its potential to profoundly impact students’ learning. He pledged to ensure that the computers are used effectively to benefit all students and to foster a more enriching educational environment
