The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi), has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to advancing the welfare and professional development of medical and health workers across the state.
Dr. Suleiman made the pledge while speaking at the official commissioning of the Phase II Secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in Bauchi. The event drew together health stakeholders, labour leaders, community representatives, and members of the public to celebrate what was described as a milestone achievement for the union.
Serving as Chairman of the occasion, the Speaker commended the union’s leadership for their dedication, describing the newly commissioned secretariat as a symbol of unity, progress, and collective determination to promote institutional growth and members’ welfare.
Recalling his past role as Vice Chairman of the union in Kaduna, Dr. Suleiman spoke of the resilience, sacrifice, and professionalism that define the MHWUN. He emphasized that despite his current position, he remains a committed health unionist at heart, and assured that the Bauchi State House of Assembly would continue to partner with the union in promoting the welfare of its members.
The Speaker further acknowledged the vital contributions of health workers, particularly at the grassroots level, in sustaining the state’s healthcare system. He pledged that the Assembly would continue to enact supportive legislation, conduct effective oversight, and advocate for improved funding, infrastructure, and remuneration for workers in the sector.
Representing Governor Bala Mohammed at the event, the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Muhammad S. Umar, commended the union for its achievements and assured of the government’s commitment to improving conditions of service, salaries, and duty-post upgrades for health workers.
