Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged the youths to uphold unity, peace, understanding, and harmony, and to refrain from lawlessness in the state.
This caution comes after a recent crisis between Gyakan and Chobo communities in the Lamurde local government area, which resulted in the loss of lives and property.
Accompanied by state service commanders and other government officials, Governor Fintiri visited the affected communities to assess the situation and mediate between the parties involved.
Represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, the governor emphasized the importance of peace for socio-economic development and emphasized the need for adherence to the law.
Governor Fintiri expressed the administration’s commitment to the safety and security of citizens and warned against any form of lawlessness.
He also sympathized with the affected communities and visited some of the victims at Suwa Primary Health Centre, advocating for their immediate referral due to the severity of their injuries.
Additionally, he visited NumanGeneral Hospital to check on other injured individuals receiving medical attention.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankwombo, reaffirmed the security agents’ dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
He announced the arrest of the perpetrator of the violence and assured that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
Chairman of Lamurde local government area, Bulus Daniel, appealed to the aggrieved parties to set aside their differences and maintain peace.
Community leaders expressed gratitude for the government’s swift response and requested additional medical supplies and relief items for those affected.
Reports indicated that the conflict between Gyakan and Chobo communities stemmed from allegations against a woman involved in fetish activities, who reportedly molested, tortured, and extorted her victims.
This led to confrontation and subsequent destruction of lives and property. The accused woman has been arrested and is in police custod
