Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has cautioned parents against hindering their children from acquiring education, noting that such is detrimental to their growth and development.
The governor made the warning in his address at the Flag ceremony of the first scholarship scheme for 40 students admitted into federal government colleges and empowerment for 360 Elders, Youths and Women sponsored by the chairman of Song local government area, Idris Yahya.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, deputy governor professor Kaletapwa Farauta acknowledged the importance of such scholarship especially to the less privileged, saying she has been a beneficiary of such initiative decades ago
He informed parents and stakeholders that education is the foundation of life, hence the investment in child education for a productive life.
Having warned against terminating the education of children, especially the girl child, he urged parents to support their educational pursuit for them to fulfil their potential, adding that the gesture by the chairman is in line with his administration’s policies and programs on education.
The chairman of Song Local Government area, Idris Yahya, said the event is the celebration of dreams, aspirations, fulfilment and commitment to the future of Youths.
He said his aspiration has always been to ensure children have access to quality education and the resources they need to thrive academically.
Yahya explained that the initiative is copied from governor Fintiri who has been exemplifying and dedicating himself to fostering talents, encouraging ambitions and investing in future leaders.
The chairman thereafter, revealed his commitment to expanding educational initiatives, noting that a bill to guarantee “no student is left behind, and nothing is left untouched” is in the pipeline for legislative council consideration and possible passage, even as he advocated for more resources and opportunities necessary to enhance the educational landscape of Song local government.
In a welcome address, the education secretary of the Song local government area, Ahmadu Bakari, saluted the vision of the Song local government chairman for creating an enabling environment for future leaders to have access to quality education in tandem with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s policies and programs on education.
While appreciating the governor for transforming the education system in the state, the education secretary revealed that the beneficiaries were selected across the eleven wards of Song.
The beneficiaries of both the scholarship and empowerment program and parents thanked the chairman for such laudable support and encouragement, especially during these difficult times, praying for more wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
Other stakeholders, in their goodwill messages, lauded the people-centric leadership disposition of Idris Yahya, who has got a niche for himself as a “civilian general “, testifying that he has continued to provide needed change the people have been yearning for.
The event climaxed with the laying of the foundation for the construction of one block of classrooms and an office in the Dauchi community of Song local government executed by the chairman Idris Yahya.
