    Adamawa community halt TCN’s move to transfer 75MVAR/330KV(T&R) reactor, accessories to Jebba.

    Mayo-belwa Community have blocked officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from removing and relocation of a 75MVAR/330KV(T&R) shunt reactor based at Mayo-belwa transmission substation in Yola, Adamawa state to Jebba transmission substation in Niger state.

    Reports from the area indicates that trouble started on Saturday 18th January 2025 when members of the Mayo- belwa Community plying the major high way by the entrance of the town noticed usual presence of three (3) articulated vehicles (trailers)inside the substation’s facility with some unknown people busy dismantling the electric reactor and its components.

    A situation believed to have generated serious tension and suspicion among residents of Mayo-belwa local government area and was reported to the Concerned citizens Association of Mayo-belwa Community who immediately mobilized to the site of the facility and vehemently resisted the evacuation of the said equipments.

    After fruitless efforts to have they way then,officials of the TCN,Yola sub-region led by the Assistant General Manager, AGM. Engineer Mustapha Hassan solicited for the attention of the local government council through the executive council chairman, Hon.Umaru Nashion Gubi where an interface was scheduled for Monday 20th January.

    During the meeting presided over by the Vice Chairman of Mayo-belwa local government area, Hajiya Hauwa Ndittijo Yarima with the Officials of TCN,Yola-Sub regional office, members of local government legislative council and the Concerned citizens Association executives,the matter was scrutinized with out reaching acceptable resolution.

    In his submission, TCN Yola-Sub regional office, Engineer Mustapha Hassan explained that the stunt reactor or adaptor would be evacuated to Jebba transmission substation, Jebba sub regi- on in Niger state to improve supply to the national grid.

    Engineer Hassan solicited for understanding of the community stressing that the facility movement was eminent for rescue mission or purposes with a view to boosting generation of electricity supply to Nigerians as part of measures to addressing the epileptic electricity energy being experience in the country.

    He appreciated the commitment of the community in safeguarding the Federal government’s property in their domain assuring them that the government will replace the equipment soon so that the supply can be available to all.

    Responding, Chairman of Mayo-belwa Concerned Citizens Association,Alhaji Mohammad Lawan Danladi expressed reservations with the approach adopted by TCN in the saga decrying that how can someone just bounced in a community with out reaching out to anybody and start dismantling useful facility of that magnitude.

    Danladi lamented that, similar incidents have been recorded under suspicious and questionable circumstances by the community in the past without any trace or knowing who to hold responsible, admitting that, residents were right to protest over this situation at hand.

    “In power sector alone, more than 6 incidences were recorded from 1996 to date with the most recent was in 2003, and 2020 while in water board, all pipes supply for networking Mayo belwa were also taken in between 2015-2019

    “Likewise, in our health care facility sector,hospital equipments including big water tanks were fraudulently parked to unknown destination.

    “These informed our action this time around and we demand appropriate procedure be adopted with the involvement of our local government council executives”. Danladi requested.

    In her remarks, the Vice Chairman of the council (Mayo-belwa), Hajiya Hauwa Ndittijo Yarima appealed for calmness amongst the disagreeing parties saying that administration approach would be adopted in tackling the matter.

    Yarima concluded that she will brief her boss as soon as he comes back from official engagement at the state capital soonest so that acceptable and fair treatment would be accorded appropriately.

    A covering letter signed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the TCN, Engr.S.A Abdulaziz addressed to the contracting firm,Messrs Eurobel International Limited,Suite B’Oka Street ,Garki Abuja dated 12th November 2024 shown the mandate authorizing the relocation of the embattled reactor adaptor from Mayo-belwa transmission substation to Jebba transmission substation accordingly.
