
During the state task force on primary health care meeting organized by the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency at the Government House in Yola, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta disclosed that 1,972 individuals underwent screening for cervical cancer in the state. Out of this number, 165 were identified as positive cases and are set to undergo further evaluation to receive necessary health care.
The meeting, presided over by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, provided an avenue for state and non-state actors to assess the accomplishments and challenges of routine immunization exercises from January to July 2024.
Professor Farauta commended the recent successes of the cervical cancer awareness, sensitization, and screening campaign across the 21 local government areas. She also addressed the outbreak of other health issues, such as measles, and emphasized the need for sustained immunization campaigns.
Recognizing the pivotal role of development partners, community, and religious leaders, Professor Farauta emphasized their indispensable contribution to the success of health interventions in Adamawa.
The meeting also addressed the recent outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea in Yola North. The Deputy Governor directed health workers to respond promptly and efficiently to the outbreak and urged stakeholders to fulfil their responsibilities.
Dr Suleiman Saidu Bashir, the State Executive Chairman of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, delivered an overview of the upcoming primary health care activities, providing orientation for new task force members, and discussed the integrated measles campaign, increased cases of acute watery diarrhoea, and flood alerts.
Idris Yahaya, the Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), affirmed the commitment of local government chairmen to enhance the health and well-being of the people.
Development partners also reiterated their dedication to working for Adamawa state to improve the health status of its citizens, emphasizing the need for budgetary allocation, coordination, and support to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
