FINTIRI DELIVERS LECTURE ON ETHNIC MILITIAS, RESOURCE COMPETITION AND NATIONAL SECURITY AT NISS.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has delivered a lecture on ethnic militias, resource competition and their implications for national security, drawing attention to the Adamawa State experience.

The lecture, titled “Ethnic Militia and Resource Competition: National Security Implications – The Adamawa State Experience,” was delivered at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Bwari, Abuja.

Governor Fintiri presented the lecture to participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 19 (EIMC/19), a high-level programme designed to deepen participants’ understanding of intelligence management, security challenges and national security administration.

The topic highlights the complex relationship between ethnic identity, competition over natural resources and security challenges, particularly in communities where disagreements over land, traditional authority, access to resources and other socio-economic interests can escalate into communal tensions.

Adamawa State, with its diverse ethnic composition and agrarian communities, provides an important context for examining the challenges associated with communal conflicts and the broader implications for peace, stability and development.

The governor’s engagement with the participants also provided an opportunity to examine the importance of effective governance, conflict prevention, inclusive development and institutional collaboration in addressing the underlying factors that contribute to insecurity.

The National Institute for Security Studies, located in Bwari, Abuja, is a leading institution for advanced training and research in security and strategic studies.
